Two centuries of hands-on experience
The Rowland Company has over 25 years experience in problem solving and engineering of industrial
brakes,
clutches,
couplings,
u-joints,
driveshafts
and drive systems. Industrial machinery such as rolling mills, stamping presses, converting equipment, printing presses, paper mills and pumps are typical of the equipment on which we work. Our
product offering can involve most any application from fractional horsepower equipment to several thousand horsepower mills. Additionally, we offer
value-added machine shop services, fabrication of related components and turnkey systems.
Steel
In the steel industry, our strength lies in the design and fabrication of
universal joints and
couplings for rolling mills, cranes and other mill equipment. This also includes the installation of
air clutches on shears and saws.
Friction material is another critical element of our business. Our
machine shop gives us the capability of relining and/or rebuilding almost any brake or clutch. We are heavily involved in supplying parts, as well as the servicing of electric and hydraulic drum
brakes used on cranes and mills. A recent offering is the newly designed electric caliper disc brakes to replace older style drum brakes on cranes.
Additionally, in the metalworking area, we typically supply parts and service for brakes and clutches used on presses and shears from any manufacturer. This also includes our engineering services to retrofit old clutch and brake packages with new combination clutch/brake designs.
Petro-Chemical
Petro-Chemical plants require a variety of couplings, predominantly for pump drives. These critical operations typically have to operate 24 hours a day. Our disc pack
flexible couplings are ideally suited for these applications. We can supply API certified designs. Additionally, we can supply over-running clutch couplings for Dual Drives. Our delayed engagement centrifugal clutches work perfectly with standby drives.
Water and Wastewater
Wastewater plants are subject to significant overload conditions from excess runoff during storms. We supply stainless steel mechanical torque limiters, as well as electronic protection systems that are specifically designed for this industry. We custom build long vertical
universal joint shaft assemblies used in deep well pumping stations. We also can provide hydrostatic and electronic
variable speed drives have proven performance in these hostile environments
Recently, we have added additional power transmission components traditionally used in the water and wastewater industry. We can now supply stainless steel and non-metallic chain, wall bearings, flights and sprockets.
Power Generation
The Power Generation industry is a relatively new industry for The Rowland Company. Our flexible disc couplings are commonly used in pump and generator applications in power plants. Combination
over-running clutch couplings are used in dual drive situations. For coal-fired plants, we can supply a package with motor, gearbox and
fluid coupling for the conveyor drives. On inclined conveyors, we offer high speed and low speed backstops.
